This past Christmas, I first learned about Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey and the amazing history of Nathan "Nearest" Green, the first African American master distiller. Ingredients:
2 oz Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey
0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
0.75 oz simple syrup
1 egg white (optional)
Instructions:
In a shaker, combine all the ingredients and shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to ensure the egg white is fully blended in (if using).
Fill a rocks glass with ice and strain the contents of your shaker into it.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry or lemon wedge for an extra touch of flavor.
Blackberry Whiskey Smash
Ingredients:
2 oz Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey
3 fresh blackberries, lightly muddled
1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
0.5 oz simple syrup (you can make your own by boiling equal parts water and sugar)
A few fresh mint leaves, roughly torn
Sparkling water or club soda to top off the drink
Instructions:
In a shaker glass, add Uncle Nearest and blackberries. Lightly muddle the berries to release some of their flavor & color.
Then add freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and mint leaves. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
Fill a rocks glass with ice cubes, then strain the mixture into the glass. Top it off with sparkling water or club soda to give it some fizz and dilute the sweetness of the drink slightly.

Old-Fashioned Cocktail
Ingredients:
2 ounces Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey
1 teaspoon of superfine sugar or simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Orange peel, for garnish
Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Ice cubes
Instructions:
Combine Uncle Nearest, sugar or simple syrup, and bitters in an old-fashioned glass. Stir to combine.
Add a few ice cubes and stir until the drink is cold.
Peel an orange and twist it over the top of the glass to release its oils. Rub the rim of the glass with the orange peel and drop it into the glass.
Add a maraschino cherry for additional flavor and garnish.
Serve immediately and enjoy!
